James Magor, Director, Sustainability at Actis, commented:
“We think it’s important because, as an infrastructure investor, when we come to exit the business and we take it to market, we believe that businesses recognized as the leading sustainable company in their sector are worth more and valuation is higher.
“We try and keep it relatively simple. It’s about risk management and value creation. Even if we can’t attribute a precise dollar value, we see increased competition leading to a higher valuation as evidence of the value that we’ve created from our focus on managing risk and creating a sustainability leader.
“… the more positive examples that we can pull out from the industry to demonstrate the value of considering sustainability when investing, that’s going to help catalyze systemic change and the low-carbon transition.”
