Thomas Liu, Partner, Head of Greater China and Asia Data Centre, Real Estate at Actis, commented:
“Ultimately, I think investors today are weighing up both financial and environmental considerations. However, the presence of sustainable energy is certainly becoming a more important factor. When data centres were only required to facilitate cloud computing, it was more important that they were close to customers. Now, with the emergence of power-hungry AI, and because latency is less important with AI training models, data centre operators and investors have the option of selecting locations where green power makes up a greater proportion of the energy mix.”
