Thomas Liu, Partner, Head of Greater China and Asia Data Centre, Real Estate at Actis, commented:
“Johor came from nowhere and is now the talk of the town. Even for the cloud players, Singapore just didn’t have enough capacity to let them grow, and so they needed to look at other alternatives. People started looking at both Johor and Batam [Indonesia], and until about two years ago there was a debate whether it will be Batam or Johor. But clearly, by now, Johor has proven to be the natural destination.
“Of all the sites in our area… we’re the only one who has secured power to be delivered this year – most other sites are dependent on a new substation which the utilities have promised will be delivered by 2027.”
